Welcome to GouldGenes (gouldgenes.com). By using this calculator you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

1. What the calculator is for

GouldGenes is a free tool that estimates the possible chicks of Lady Gouldian finch pairings and shows an illustrated nest simulation. You may use it for your own personal, hobby or breeding planning.

2. Results are estimates and may be wrong

Results are based on standard inheritance, information shared by breeders, and the choices you enter. They may be incomplete or wrong. Real clutches vary, and how mutations are named, inherited and combined can differ between breeders, countries and bloodlines. In particular:

• Some traits are still being studied by breeders, and the calculator uses rough averages or best guesses for them. These include the red (fusion) line, seagreen, the Australian dilute and Australian yellow mutations, and how mixed head color pairs affect the number of cocks and hens.
• Percentages are averages over many clutches. A single nest can turn out very differently.
• Hatch days, eye opening, feathering, fledging and molting times are typical ranges, not promises.
• The birds, eggs and chicks are cartoon illustrations, not photographs. Real birds can look different.

Always check results against your own birds and experienced breeders. Do not rely on this calculator as your only source when buying, selling, pricing or pairing birds, and please do your own research.

3. Not veterinary or legal advice

Nothing in the calculator is veterinary, health, legal or business advice. For the health of your birds, talk to an avian veterinarian.

4. Who may use the calculator

If you are under 18, you may use the calculator only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. The calculator has no accounts and does not ask for personal information such as names or email addresses.

5. Bird laws and responsible care

The calculator is a planning and education tool only. It does not sell, buy, ship or give away birds, and nothing in it is advice that keeping, breeding or selling birds is allowed where you live.

You are responsible for following all federal, state, provincial and local laws and rules that apply to you, including those on keeping, breeding, selling, trading, banding, shipping, importing and exporting birds and their eggs. The Gouldian finch is a protected species in the wild in Australia, and many countries have rules on trading wild-caught or native birds. Laws change, so check the current rules with the appropriate authorities.

Never release captive birds into the wild. Give your birds proper housing, food, care and veterinary attention, and wash your hands after handling birds, eggs, nests or equipment.

6. Ownership

The calculator, including its code, design, artwork, illustrations, text and genetics data, is owned by GouldGenes and protected by intellectual property laws. All rights are reserved.

7. What you may not do

Without written permission, you may not:

• copy, reproduce, republish or redistribute the calculator's code, artwork, text or data;
• modify the calculator, or use it to build a similar or competing calculator, app or website;
• scrape, harvest or extract content or results in bulk, by automated means or otherwise;
• remove or change any copyright or other notices;
• present the calculator as your own;
• use the calculator in a way that breaks the law or interferes with how it works for others.

You may share the results of your own pairings (for example a screenshot) as long as GouldGenes is credited.

8. Trademarks

GouldGenes™ and the GouldGenes name and logo are trademarks of GouldGenes. You may not use them in a way that suggests your product, business or website is GouldGenes or is endorsed by GouldGenes.

9. No warranty

The calculator and all of its features, including saved pairs and export and import, are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, reliability, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. It may not always be available, may change or stop working at any time, and may contain errors.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, GouldGenes is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the calculator, its features or its results, including decisions about breeding, pairing, buying, selling or keeping birds, or any failure to follow the laws that apply to you.

11. Your data, saved pairs, and export and import

The calculator runs in your web browser. It does not ask for, collect or send your personal information. Pairs you choose to save, including any ring or leg band numbers and names you type in, are kept only in your own web browser on your device. They are not sent to us and we cannot see, recover or restore them.

The save, export and import features are optional conveniences, provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. By using them you agree that:

• you are solely responsible for your saved pairs and for any files you export, import, edit, store, copy or share, including keeping your own backups;
• saved pairs can be lost, changed or become unreadable at any time, for example if you clear your browser data, use a private window, change browser or device, or if the calculator is updated;
• exported files may not open correctly in every program, and files that are edited, damaged, out of date or made by someone else may import incorrectly, partly or not at all;
• importing a file can add to or replace saved pairs with the same name, and you should check every imported pair before relying on it;
• you are responsible for what you put in a file and who you share it with, including any band numbers or other details about your birds.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, GouldGenes is not responsible or liable for any loss, damage, cost or inconvenience of any kind arising from saving, exporting, importing, editing or sharing pairs or files, including lost, wrong or corrupted data, and you agree not to make any claim against GouldGenes about these features.

12. Changes

The calculator and these Terms may be updated at any time, for example as breeders share new information. The date at the top shows when the Terms last changed. Continuing to use the calculator after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
